Application landscape
Know what you run, and what it already covers.
Bring your application portfolio into Northmap from the spreadsheet or tool export you already have. Each application keeps its lifecycle, owners, costs and compliance, and the whole landscape is searched for reuse every time a demand comes in.
Why the inventory doesn't help the next decision
Most organisations have an application inventory. Few open it when a new request arrives.
- The inventory lives somewhere else
- The portfolio sits in a spreadsheet or an EA tool that evaluators don't open. Demands are decided without looking at it.
- Each import is a small project
- Column names change from one export to the next, so every refresh means rebuilding the mapping by hand.
- Coverage is unknown
- The inventory says what you run, not what each application can do. That answer comes from forms sent to owners.
What changes with Northmap
Your landscape comes in from the files you have, and it is used on every demand.
Import from what you have
Upload a CSV or Excel export from your portfolio tool or a spreadsheet. Northmap suggests how each column maps to its fields, and you confirm every one.
Mappings remembered
Save the mapping under a name. The next export from the same source is recognised, and new or missing columns are pointed out.
A full record per application
Around sixty fields per application, from identity and ownership to lifecycle, technical details, compliance and costs. Edit them in place and attach documents.
Searched on every demand
When a demand arrives, applications are searched by meaning and scored next to market products on the same requirements. A good description is what makes an application show up.
Map columns
12 columns and 418 rows read from the file.

ContinueWhat sits in your landscape
Applications come first. Initiatives, projects and market products sit alongside, and you can ask about any of them in plain words.
- Applications
- Around sixty fields each: identity, owners, organisation, lifecycle, technical details, compliance and costs.
- Initiatives and projects
- Strategic initiatives and delivery projects with their status, RAG, schedule and costs.
- Market products
- An external catalog of software products with categories, features, pricing and alternatives.
- Questions in plain words
- Ask which applications are being retired or which projects are red. The answer lists the records it used.
